Checklist for installing IPTV on LG TV

Install IPTV on LG TV in 10 steps
Open the LG Content Store
Press Home and select the LG Content Store from the launcher bar. Sign in with an LG account if you have not already, because the store will not install anything for a guest. Creating one takes a minute and needs only an email address.
Search for a player
Use the search icon and try IPTV Smarters, then Smart IPTV, then simply IPTV. Results differ by country and by how old the television is. Read the developer name in each listing rather than trusting the icon, since several lookalike apps exist.
Install it and launch it once
Select Install, wait for it to finish, then open the app immediately so webOS completes setup and places it on your launcher. If the app does not appear on the bar afterwards, restart the television and look again before reinstalling.
Enter the Xtream details
In a Smarters-style player, choose the Xtream Codes option and type the server address, username and password from the WhatsApp message. The Magic Remote pointer makes the on-screen keyboard much easier than a directional pad, but letter case still matters and a trailing space still breaks the login.

Smart IPTV on LG works the same way as on Samsung: open it, note the MAC address on screen, then on a phone visit the Smart IPTV site, enter that MAC with your M3U link and save. Restart the app and the channels load. This is the route that works on older LG sets.
Open the Irish channels first
Go straight to the Ireland group and start RTE, Virgin Media and TG4, then check the UK group. Confirming the channels your household actually watches is the first useful test, and it takes under a minute.
Hide unused groups and set favourites
Trim the group list down to what your home watches, then add a dozen channels to favourites. LG remotes vary between a plain pad and the pointer, and a short list makes both far quicker to live with.
Load the guide and fix the offset
Refresh the EPG from within the player and allow a minute for it to arrive. If programmes appear an hour out, adjust the time offset in the player settings. Check the television is set to update date and time automatically while you are in the menus.
Prefer a cable over Wi-Fi
LG sets have an Ethernet port, and using it is the most reliable fix for pausing during live sport. If a cable is impractical, select the 5 GHz band in the network settings, which matters most in apartment blocks where every neighbour has a router.
Set the picture mode for evening viewing
LG televisions also ship in a bright shop preset. Switch to Cinema or Filmmaker mode and turn motion smoothing off before your first film. On OLED models this makes a very obvious difference in dark scenes and costs nothing.

The Content Store shows no IPTV player
Catalogues differ by country and older webOS versions see fewer apps. Check for a software update under Settings, General, About This TV, then search again. Where nothing suitable appears, a streaming stick in a spare HDMI input is the practical answer.
The app will not start after installing
Power the television off at the wall for thirty seconds rather than using standby, which does not clear memory on webOS. If it still will not open, delete the app from the launcher by holding the pointer over it, then reinstall.
Smart IPTV lists no channels
Check the MAC on the website matches the one the app shows, character for character, and that the M3U link was pasted complete. Then restart the app rather than backing out of it. A mistyped MAC is by far the most common cause.
The login fails repeatedly
Retype instead of pasting. Watch for a missing http prefix, a capital letter left on and a space at the end of the password. If three careful attempts fail, send support a photograph of the error rather than guessing further.
Streams stop after a few minutes
Move to Ethernet or the 5 GHz band, and choose the FHD version of a channel rather than the 4K one. On older LG sets memory is the other common cause, so restart the television before settling in for a long film.
The pointer disappears while an app is open
Shake the Magic Remote gently to bring it back, and replace the batteries if it happens often. Some players capture the pointer during playback by design, in which case the directional pad still works for the playback controls.
Audio plays but the picture is black
Try a different stream quality for the same channel first. If every channel does it, the television may be trying an unsupported resolution, so restart the set and the player. Where it affects only 4K streams, use the FHD version instead.
