Install IPTV on Roku in 10 steps
Search the Roku store for a player
From the home screen choose Search and try IPTV player. What appears changes from month to month and most results are not the official Smarters app. Read each description and only add one that clearly accepts an Xtream Codes login or a playlist address.
Enter the Xtream details or the M3U link
Open whichever player you installed and look for Xtream Codes. Enter the server address first, then the username and password. Some Roku players only offer a single playlist box, in which case paste the M3U address instead and wait for the list to build.
Find out what your Roku actually supports
Settings, System, About shows the model and software version. AirPlay is limited to certain 4K-capable Roku devices, and older sticks offer only generic screen mirroring. Knowing the model tells you immediately which of the three routes is realistic for you.
Switch mirroring on
Under Settings, System, Screen mirroring, set the mode to Prompt or Always allow. On models that support it, iPhone households get a better result through Settings, Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, where AirPlay can be enabled for a cleaner picture than generic mirroring gives.
Set the film up on the phone first
Mirroring shows whatever the phone shows, so make your choices there. In Smarters, open Films or Series, pick the title and select the subtitle and audio track before casting. The television cannot change those mid-stream, and fiddling with a mirrored menu in front of everyone is miserable.
Start casting
Begin playback on the phone, then mirror: Smart View on a Samsung phone, the screen mirroring option on other Android handsets, AirPlay on an iPhone, or Win+K on a Windows laptop. Expect a short delay and a slightly softer picture than a native app would give.
Turn on captions for a native store player
Where a store player uses Roku captions, set them under Settings, Accessibility, Captions mode, with size and colour under Caption style. Mirrored video keeps whatever subtitles were chosen on the phone, so this only applies to a player running on the Roku itself.
Set parental limits on the phone
Open Settings, Parental Control in Smarters, choose a PIN and lock unsuitable categories. Mirroring will then only ever show what the phone allows. On the Roku side, the parental controls in your Roku account restrict store purchases and some content separately.
Add a stick for everyday viewing

The player vanished from the Roku store

The Roku does not appear as a mirroring target
Check the phone and the Roku are on the same network rather than a guest network, which deliberately hides devices from one another. Confirm the mirroring mode is Prompt or Always allow, restart both devices and search again.
Mirrored films stutter
The stream travels to the phone and then on to the television, doubling the load on the router. Keep the phone on charge within sight of the router, play the HD version rather than 4K, and hold off on downloads until the film finishes.
Playback stops when the phone locks
Screen mirroring needs the phone display awake, so auto-lock ends the film. Raise the auto-lock delay before settling down, or use a stick so the television handles playback by itself.
Voices drift out of sync
Some delay is inherent to casting and a busy network stretches it. Stopping and restarting the cast usually resets the timing. Moving the phone closer to the router helps; a stick with a native player avoids the problem altogether.
AirPlay is missing from the Roku settings
AirPlay is limited to selected Roku hardware on recent software. Run Settings, System, System update first. If the menu still has no AirPlay entry, cast from an Android phone or a Windows laptop, or add a stick for an all-Apple household.
Win+K cannot find the Roku
Win+K uses Miracast, which both the computer and the Roku must support on one shared network. A graphics driver update often brings the television into the list, provided Roku mirroring is switched on. A desktop with no Wi-Fi card cannot use it at all.

Questions about IPTV on Roku
Why can a Roku not install apps from outside its store?
Roku keeps its platform closed: only apps published in the Roku store install, and there is no unknown sources toggle as there is on Fire OS or Android TV. A developer mode exists for people writing Roku apps, but it is no use for watching television. Store players, casting or a stick are the real options.
Is mirroring good enough for a film night?
For the occasional film, yes. It adds delay, ties up your phone and softens the picture when Wi-Fi is busy. For working through a series over several evenings, a stick with a proper player looks better, holds steadier and lets you choose episodes with a remote instead of a phone.

Is The Roku Channel a substitute for a subscription?
No. The Roku Channel carries free advertising-supported programming and its selection depends on your country. It is a useful extra, but it does not offer the same size of library or live line-up. Running a subscription on a stick beside it gives a far deeper choice.
Can a MAG box connect to a Roku television?
Yes. To the television, a MAG or Formuler box is simply another HDMI device. Select that input and drive everything with the box remote. Viewers who dislike apps often prefer this, since a set-top box gives channel buttons, a guide and a portal menu without a phone being involved.
Can I get catch-up on a Roku?
Not practically through Roku alone. Store players rarely include a catch-up section, and mirroring only shows what the phone plays. For regular replays, a stick running Smarters or TiViMate Premium is the proper answer.
Will the Roku remote control a stick?
